By discovering novel bio-nano materials necessary for the development of integrative technologies of molecular imaging and nanomedicine, BNL aims to develop cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies. It will enable accurate diagnosis of incurable diseases, including cancer, and implementation of patient-tailored treatments through multidisciplinary integrative research in medical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences.

About

Welcome to Biophotonics and Nanomedicine Laboratory!

In Biophotonics and Nanomedicine Laboratory (BNL), we developed organic/inorganic biophotonics nanomaterials and applied them to in-vitro diagnostic sensors, molecular imaging, and photodynamic/photothermal therapy, and synthesized nanomedicine transporters and applied to cell and animal model. We collaborate with various domestic/international researchers and are affiliated with the Chemical and Biological Integrative Research Center at KIST, KIST school in UST, and KU-KIST Graduate School of Converging Science and Technology. As a laboratory that conducts multidisciplinary convergence research such as chemistry, biology, optics, etc., students, interns, and postdoctoral researchers with diverse majors are conducting research together.

Research

"Development of technologies that can practically be used in a variety of medical applications, such as treatment and diagnosis, with nano-sized optical materials and drug carriers” is the ultimate goal of BNL :

the process begins with synthesis & fundamental study of nanomaterial continues with cell & animal experiments and ends up with a clinical trial. We collaborate with BioACTs, DR.Nano, Seoul National University Hospital, and other leading companies & facilities to make sure our research can be turned into a valuable medical tool.

1

Biophotonics

The term biophotonics denotes a combination of biology and photonics, with photonics being the science and technology of generation, manipulation, and detection of photons, the quantum unit of light.

2

Nanomedicine

Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology. Nanomedicine ranges from the medical applications of nanomaterials and biological devices to nanoelectronic biosensors.
