By discovering novel bio-nano materials necessary for the development of integrative technologies of molecular imaging and nanomedicine, BNL aims to develop cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment technologies. It will enable accurate diagnosis of incurable diseases, including cancer, and implementation of patient-tailored treatments through multidisciplinary integrative research in medical engineering and pharmaceutical sciences.

About

Welcome to Biophotonics and Nanomedicine Laboratory!

In Biophotonics and Nanomedicine Laboratory (BNL), we develop organic/inorganic biophotonic nanomaterials and apply them for in vitro diagnostics, molecular imaging, and photodynamic/photothermal therapy. We synthesize nano-sized therapeutics platforms and apply them to cell and animal models. We collaborate with various domestic/international researchers. We are affiliated with the Chemical and Biological Integrative Research Center at KIST, KIST School in UST, and KU-KIST Graduate School of Converging Science and Technology. Students, interns, and postdoctoral researchers with diverse majors conduct multidisciplinary convergence research in our laboratory.

Research

Development of technologies that can practically be used in a variety of medical applications, such as treatment and diagnosis, with nano-sized optical materials and drug carriers is the ultimate goal of BNL :

The process begins with the synthesis and fundamental study of nanomaterials, continues with animal and cell experiments, and culminates in clinical trials.

For our research to become a valuable medical tool, we collaborate with BioACTs, DR.Nano, Seoul National University Hospital, and other leading institutions.

1

Biophotonics

Biophotonics denotes a combination of biology and photonics, being the science and technology of generation, manipulation, and detection of photons in biological systems.

2

Nanomedicine

Nanomedicine is the medical application of nanotechnology. Nanomedicine ranges from the medical applications of nanomaterials and biological devices to nanoelectronic biosensors.
